In Pune, passengers traveling by train, especially during festivals, believe that the addition of general second class coaches leads to overcrowding and inconvenience during the commute. Arun Kumar Mishra, a senior citizen on a weekly trip from Pune to Darbhanga in Bihar, had a confirmed sleeper class berth but found the compartment taken over by ticketless travelers and those with general tickets. Mishra raised the issue with the TTE when passengers locked the bathroom door, causing a delay at Daund. Despite fines being collected, some passengers were allowed to continue their journey until Mishra reported the incident to Rail Madad, resulting in the unauthorized passengers being removed at Ahmednagar. With the Pune rail division introducing special trains for the upcoming festive season, concerns are raised about reserved passengers losing their berths to those without tickets or with general tickets. Officials are increasing the number of general second class coaches in all trains to accommodate the surge in passengers. Passengers have observed unauthorized passengers entering compartments as a common occurrence.During recent train journeys, passengers have reported instances of ticketless travelers occupying reserved seats, causing overcrowding in train compartments. Rajesh Doshi, a Pune resident, expressed concern over the issue, emphasizing the need for better enforcement. Sagar Jadhav also shared a similar experience on the Ahmedabad-Pune Duronto Express, highlighting the lack of proper seating arrangements despite having reserved seats. The overcrowding is not only limited to trains but also extends to platforms, prompting railway officials in Pune to consider setting up temporary waiting sheds to improve crowd management and passenger safety. inadequate seating, water facilities, and waiting areas at the station have been noted, potentially creating dangerous overcrowding situations and risks of stampedes.
